Welcome to Gorge View - home of the Robson family
Since 2003, Huw and Mary, have lived here, originally with daughters Stephanie and Lisa who have now long flown the nest, and until a few years ago with the lovely but aging Thomas cat (RIP). The house is at least 130 and probably more like 200 years old, and we know that the house started out with a thatched roof and whitewashed walls back in the 1800's, with the garden a strawberry field (Cheddar being famous for not only for cheese, gorge and caves, but also it's strawberries). In the early 20th Century it was significantly rebuilt, we think to qualify for early mains water.
Around 30 years ago the previous owners converted some outbuildings in to an annexe with its own bathroom, originally using that as a holiday let. They later converted it back to an extension of the main house. This "annexe" is now where Mary works from with her psychotherapy practise.
In 2010 the little stand-alone "garage" got made-over. It had been a very very tiny two-up two-down affair (with a ladder to get upstairs) which we understand was originally a gardener's cottage. For us it was used for a mix of storage, wood store, bike shed and a little workshop up the ladder. Now it is a beautiful (and very environmentally converted) one-up one-down open-plan cottage, with a kitchen area and a small bathroom and proper stairs to get to the bedroom. We rent this out now as a holiday let: Gorge View Cottage
